Back For Good, Again and Again

Posted By: Jo BritonOctober 14th, 2011

Shock horror celebrity ‘news’ – Robbie Williams has left Take That for a second time and will return to being a solo artist. Now, I am probably very cynical but I reckon this is one of the best marketing campaigns ever.

Take That separated in 1996 following a public bust up between Williams and Gary Barlow; they then regroup in 2006 as a four-some with a sell out tour and several albums. Brilliant! They have really made their money and brought joy to young girls and their mothers who remember them from the first time around. But wait: in 2010 Williams rejoins and they again enjoy more sell out tours and make more money and win industry awards. Now Barlow releases that Williams has quit Take That yet again and was quoted as saying: “It ended perfectly. And you know what, we can revisit it whenever we want. A lot of Take That fans may be breathing a sigh of relief as many believed Robbie tried to take over when he got back in the band.”

Awesome – so not only can the band and their management company milk the ‘will he, won’t he’ for ever more but they have the fans believing they did it all for them.

Sorry but I’ve got to say it: he’s not Back For Good, and I Pray this is Progress, that Everything Changes and it would be a Beautiful World if Nobody Else leaves or joins otherwise it will become The Circus.

Have to say I agree about this being staged, but also I am surprised. I had visions of them being like the Rolling Stones and once back together just kept going.

Clever ending Jo, obviously one of those Mother’s you were referring to?

I also agree that it seems staged and a definite way for Robbie to bring back his solo career and use the other Take That boys to relaunch himself again.

    Great ending too!

Although I am not a fan (funny enough), I did see the moment that Robbie Williams joined them on stage and I remember thinking they had made such a big deal of his return but it still looked like Take That and Robbie Williams. It was always going to fail. Plus don’t forget they are a pop act so Marketing and PR is what it’s all about.

Are you sure you’re not a fan Si?

I think the lesson for Robbie here has to be people love original flavours. Coca cola, ready salted crisps, abba, nsync. Was gonna say jackson 5, but im sure the MJ lovers will have something to say.lol!

Robbie by himself IMO is not a memorable artist. Would he still be surviving if he ran solo in 2011?

Is he really the vital ingredient to TT like MJ was to the J5?
