Creative solutions we like

Photos as moving scenes

Posted By: Sally HawkesOctober 14th, 2011

When we think of animated gifs used on the web, we think of the clunky, jumpy animation of such a format. However this does not have to be the case, as shown by fashion photographer Jamie Beck & motion designer Kevin Burg.

They have crafted the kind of animated gifs cleverly known as “Cinemagraphs” – The result is halfway between a video and a photo. I am very impressed with the smooth and subtle movement created in these visuals. They look quite elegant and sophisticated.

After looking at some tutorials showing how to make these, I would love to have a go at my own ‘cinemagraphs’

A nice twist on the usual animated gif. Cor I find the one with the eyes a bit eerie looking, I think it’s how her body is perfectly still while the eyes are moving.

The potential for this is amazing – Sally, tell us all how this is done!

It looks like a fairly simple process for the basic version, a bit of thought is definitely required though for looping animation. Hence why the model stays still and only the eyes move etc…

The eyes look a bit weird but the hair is great and the dress is amazing.
