How to graffiti in New York legally

Posted By: Ray CalderOctober 16th, 2011

The art of graffiti is obviously controversial, but a product design team in New York have come up with a great alternative to the real thing. They have created a notebook that is full of photographs of walls and scenes from around the streets of New York. And as a notebook the owner can then make notes or doodle all over the pictures – while feeling a touch excited stimulating that rebel inside.

I don’t know if they have plans to do this, but this concept could become a worldwide series – graffiti across the world? A notebook for all the major cities, perhaps being even more interesting in countries where the punishment for real graffiti may be painfully severe, China springs to mind.

As a designer, even in this totally computer dominated world, I still start most design projects with a pad and pencil. I might try and create my own ‘Graffiti Notebook’ of streets and scenes I like and know – and feel sure that this will help with stimulating ideas for those moments when your brain needs inspiration.

I really like the Anti-Theft Lunch Bags and the Framed Objects shown below.

I like the idea of the doodle book especially if you have some really iconic landmarks or locations. The sandwich bag is brilliant, but could turn me off of my own sandwich!

Yea the sandwich bag is pretty cool.

I think Jay might have something to say about a graffiti book, It’s a bit like an adults colouring book.

The sandwich bag serves more of a purpose and is a clever solution to the age old problem of Sandwich theft but If I saw that in the fridge I’d throw it in the bin.

As a huge fan of street art and as a responsible dad (I will stop short of claiming to be a ‘responsible adult’ as this is not the place to harbor such controversial views) I think this a fantastic idea for a book. …Should Santa be reading this and see fit to awaken me on the crimbo morn with such a stocking filler I will promise in return to stop drawing Groucho “glasses ‘n’ mustaches” on the TV Quick.

We know what to get you for secret santa then Jayenne!

don’t make me explain the meaning of the operative word.. ‘secret’ ;)

I’m shocked Jay, I thought you would have said you hated the book, I thought it would have offended the yob in you! also Jay, it’s your first xmas so let me tell you how it goes. We all pick out names from a hat and then the ladies get together and work out who’s got who.

You can usually tell who I got by my superior wrapping capability over Sally’s slap dash approach.
