Giving words life with Kinetic Typography

Posted By: Simon WhiteJanuary 27th, 2012

Here is something I have always been a big fan of, and until recently I did not realise there were so many examples of it on youtube. Some are good and some are bad but if you have an interest in typography and film it is definitely worth checking out.

I found some brilliant examples that I cannot us one here because of their explicit content but I have found three that I can show you.

What I like about these short animations known as ‘Kinetic Typography’ is how they bring the words from a script to life and give them more depth and meaning.

I’m thinking of giving it a go, but I need to think about which film I’d like to use, and which part of the script… Any Suggestions?

In some ways they are a similar artistic expression/medium to animated info graphics which we have blogged about before. But these feel ‘cooler’ working with the famous film scripts. If I get time I would use A Few Good Men and of course, one of the most powerful and memorable dialogues in film, the court scene with Cruise and Nicholson. But then again the funniest option would be any classic Yoda moment. I can think of some great ways to play on his backwards speech, with all words appearing back to front as well.

I really like these alternative typographic ways to show a story and evoke a feeling. It would be interesting to try some alternative films, maybe not some gritty ones, what about chick flicks? How would they look?

Which chick flick and which bit?
