Is losing your virginity art?

I’m all for art and against any sort of censorship as I feel it can be a slippery slope, but I’m not sure how I feel about this controversial exhibition.

A student has announced that he would lose his virginity in front of a crowd of 100 people in the name of art. Clayton Pettet, 19, will have sex for the first time at the Orange Dot gallery in Bloomsbury for a project entitled ‘Art School Stole My Virginity’.

Clayton, who has been planning the event for three years, said he and an anonymous partner will have protected sex and then ask the audience what they thought of the performance.

He particularly wants to explore the theme of youthful sexuality and the value put upon virginity.

Clayton has not told his parents about the project, but has informed his tutors at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design.

The second-year student at Central Saint Martins art school in London has been accused of cheapening sex and art with the stunt. The Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement believe the project is not art and cheapens the special relationship of sex.

Whatever the outcome good luck to Clayton and I hope it goes well and he doesn’t regret anything.
